چکیده

The pair-correlation function applied to 3D Atom Probe reconstructed volumes has been used to study the influence of a pre-ageing treatment (363K) on the early stages of precipitation at 458K in an Al-Mg-Si 6016 alloy. Mg-Si short-range positive pair correlation (clustering) is shown to form after a pre-ageing treatment. The hetero-atomic clusters are thought to act as preferential nucleation sites and lead to a finer dispersion of precipitates after ageing. ∗ Corresponding author. THE EFFECT OF AGING ON THE CLUSTERING AND PRECIPITATION PROCESS IN Al-Mg-Si ALLOYS

The dependence of the mechanism of age hardening in Al-Mg-Si alloys on their Si content, the pre-aging conditions and addition of Cu has been investigated. For this purpose, the solute clusters and the metastable precipitates in aged Al-Mg-Si alloys have been characterized by a three dimensional atom probe (3DAP) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Atom probe analysis results have revea...

Data analysis and other considerations concerning the study of precipitation in Al–Mg–Si alloys by Atom Probe Tomography

Atom Probe Tomography (APT) analysis and hardness measurements were used to characterize the early stages of precipitation in an Al-0.51 at%Mg-0.94 at%Si alloy as reported in the accompanying Acta Materialia paper [1]. The changes in microstructure were investigated after single-stage or multi-stage heat treatments including natural ageing at 298 K (NA), pre-ageing at 353 K (PA), and automotive...

Effects of Various Ageing Heat Treatments on Microstructural Features and Hardness of Piston Aluminum Alloy

Piston aluminum alloys have different intermetallic phases, such as Cu3Al, Mg2Si ,and AlNi phases. The morphology and the distribution of such phases have important roles on mechanical properties of the piston material. Therefore, in this research, various ageing heat treatments on the mentioned material were done and the microstructural feature and the hardness were studi...

The Kinetics of Natural Ageing in 6000 Alloys - a Multi-method Approach

Room temperature ‘natural’ ageing in Al-Mg-Si alloys was studied by means of six different techniques: electrical resistivity, thermoanalysis, hardness measurement, lifetime of positrons, 3D atom probe and small-angle neutron scattering in order to identify different clustering stages and to study when the negative effect of natural ageing on subsequent ‘artificial’ ageing sets in. The various ...

PRE-PRECIPITATE CLUSTERS AND PRECIPITATION PROCESSES IN Al-Mg-Si ALLOYS

––The solute clusters and the metastable precipitates in aged Al-Mg-Si alloys have been characterized by a three-dimensional atom probe (3DAP) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). After long-term natural aging, Mg-Si co-clusters have been detected in addition to separate Si and Mg atom clusters. The particle density of β′′ after 10 h artificial aging at 175°C varies depending on pre-agin...
